In Ontario, 19,455 children are being raised by grandparents and other kin family (with no parent involved). Many of these children have special needs.
CANGRANDS is a grassroots organization of grandparents and community group leaders who represent caregivers of dependent children. Most of these children are being raised by a single grandparent or kin who is retired with very low income. There is very little in the way of support for these children many of whom are FAS, ADHD, RAD, and have suffered neglect and abuse. There is even less support for the kin caregivers. This camp experience is a wonderful opportunity for these families. An opportunity many will not get without your help.
