After breakfast: Q & A on FASD and the Education System by  Allan Mountford, B.A., B.P.E., B.Ed., M.Ed. will facilitate a presentation and discussion to help CANGRANDS families negotiate the educational system.  Allan teaches for a large district school board in southern Ontario in a Section 20 program for aggressive adolescents, many with FASD.


After lunch: “Ya Gotta Laugh (Finding the Comedy in Your Chaos)" by Mike Moore, B.A. M.ed., a recognized motivational speaker, will be giving a 90 minute morning presentation. All Mike's presentations include helpful content packaged in fun and humour.

After both meals: Restoring Hope ­ Creating Connections within Kin-care Families by Betty J.B. Brouwer, M.Sc., R.C.A.T. This presentation will give an overview of the development and importance of healthy attachment before exploring the impact and implications of attachment disruptions. Time will be spent addressing the relational complexities that are involved and specifically addressing the added layer that exists for kin-care providers raising kin. Betty's goal is to explore and discuss ways to support skincare providers as they seek to nurture, repair and the build a healthy and secure attachment for children who have had a difficult start in life. Betty's hope is to provide resources, and perhaps a fresh way of understanding the implications of what you already know through lived experience and then how together we can support caregivers and children as they go through the challenges on their life journey. There will be time for questions.

After Supper: (6:30 pm) Seminar with Dan King Dan King has worked to support family with disabilities since 2003 He is one of the founders of the Party for People with Special Needs http://www.ppsn.on.ca It's mission is to provide a political voice for the community of families affected by disability.
Seminar will be to open families of their opportunities to access programs to which they are fully entitled under Canadian law - What programs are available to our community? What are your tax credits? What are your entitlements?

After breakfast: "Setting Priorities for Action" with Esme Fuller-Thomson, PhD.  This workshop will help Cangrands review the most pressing issues facing grandparent caregivers and develop a priority list to guide what the group will be working on this year.

After lunch "Brainstorming on Promising Advocacy Strategies” with Esme Fuller-Thomson, PhD. How can we best build on CANGRANDS past successes in advocacy? Esme will present a brief overview of some creative advocacy strategies. Then the grandparents will brainstorm different strategies to address some of the issues identified as priorities in the morning session.

Esme Fuller-Thomson, Ph.D. Is an Associate Professor Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. Esme has the points raised last year to help develop some action agendas around those issues. Esme will also be asking to interview grands at camp.

After breakfast: Manifest Your Magnificence:  Creative Ways to Enhance Self Esteem by Susan T Howson, MA, CPCC, CHBC  As a grandparent, do you wonder how to help your grandchildren become more prepared for life, how to build your grandchild's self esteem, how to teach your grandchildren with the values and virtues that will guide them to becoming a productive and fulfilled adult?  Attend and learn how to teach your grandchildren how to Manifest their Magnificence and Enhance their Self Esteem.

After lunch “The Pickings Good"  Come pick the brain of Gary Direnfeld, social worker, recognized Court expert, author and media celebrity. Gary will host a Q & A session, taking questions from the group on all matters of family life and parenting. Gary has 29 years of experience and have been deemed an expert in social work, marital and family therapy, child development, parent-child relationships, as well as custody and access matters by Courts in Ontario. Due to Gary's depth of expertise and approach to service, people come from considerable distances, even when they have other help or benefits available. This promises to be fun, spirited and informative.
