It's Christmastime. Cold, competitive Elaina Houston would rather work than celebrate. Not only is Christmas a complete waste of time and money in her opinion, but also it brings with it haunting memories that drive Elaina further into her frigid shell. Work is the only answer, but she's surrounded by coworkers who bask in the holiday glow, constantly reminding her of painful memories from Christmases gone by.

Then one night, a week before Christmas, her past comes back to haunt her, and she's given an ultimatum. Either she learns the Spirit of Christmas or she won't live to see another December 25th. Can Elaina experience a change of heart before she runs out of time?

Eleanor Berman, Grandparent A, B, C's: A Beginner's Handbook (The Berkley Publishing Group) (1998)This book provides a road map for grandparents through the journey of grandparenthood - from birth on. The book does not address specific legal aspects, however, there is a reference section at the end that lists information sources and internet sites for grandparents.

Eda LeShan, Grandparenting in a Changing World (Newmarket Press) (1993) The author address, amongst other grandparent issues, grandparents' rights, divorce, and when grandparents are raising their grandchildren. There is a final chapter listing grandparenting resources.

Arthur Kornhaber, M.D. with Sandra Forsyth, Grandparent Power!: How to Strengthen the Vital Connection Among Grandparents, Parents, and Children (Three Rivers Press) (1994) To address the changed rules of grandparenting today, the author discusses the contemporary realities of divorce, custody battles, children living in nontraditional families, grandparents raising grandchildren. There is also valuable discussion on grandparent support groups and a chapter on custody and visitation - this chapter weighs the pros and cons of court intervention and discusses what to expect in the courtroom and throughout the process. Finally, there is a generous list of resources at the end of the book.

Peter J. Strauss & Nancy M. Lederman, The Elder Law Handbook: A Legal and Financial Survival Guide for Caregivers and Seniors (Facts On File, Inc) (1996) Although this book does not address grandparenting issues specifically, it does provide a useful chapter at the end of the book entitled "Getting Help" that tells how individuals can go about protecting their rights - what actions people can take on their own, when and how to find and hire a lawyer, and what agencies and organizations to contact for assistance. There is also a list of resources divided by various elder law issues and a listing by state of state agencies and regional federal offices.

Traci Truly, Grandparents' Rights (Sphinx Publishing) (2001) This self-help law book is designed to give people an alternative to the often complicated and confusing legal books found in most law libraries. The book is designed to help grandparents secure visitation with, or obtain custody of grandchildren, without hiring a lawyer. Even if grandparents decide to hire a lawyer, this book can be helpful to grandparents to introduce them to the topic and allow them to work with their lawyer. This book gives an overview of grandparents' rights, discusses visitation and custody issues, the role of the lawyer, the court procedure, lists state laws, and has sample completed forms and blank forms.

Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer & Dr. Steven Kaplan, Grandparenthood (Routledge) (1998) The authors of this book have focused on three areas: information on grandparenting, advise and resources for grandparents. The information sections provide a capsule description of what is known about particular aspects of grandparenting, whether it's gift-giving, adoption, raising the grandchildren, or divorce contexts. The authors then give advise on each of the sections and finally, at the end of each chapter regarding the relative subjects, there is a list of sources that can provide guidance on where to find more information.
