Only took 18 years and 7 Bills to get Ontario Grandparents Rights Legislature Passed Bill 34 Today. It becomes law on Dec. 8, 2016
Bill 34 was renamed: Children’s Law Reform Amendment Act (Recognizing Relationships with Grandparents)
The key amendment (24-2a-i) now expressly provides that the court must consider the relationship between the child and the grandparent in determining a custody or access application.
We thank MPP Michael Mantha and all legislators for finally giving a voice to grandchildren and grandparents. I am pretty darn happy yet sad as for the past 18 years I had my partner cheering me on and when it finally happens we are no longer together. God closed a door and opened this window…. still it is bittersweet.
